Pommanders/Kissing Balls

Is anyone using "kissing balls" for decor at their wedding?  I saw an idea a few months ago where the bride used shepherds hooks with kissing balls to border an aisle to the ceremony site.  I am using that as my inspiration.  I have my future brother in law making the hooks and now I'm looking to make the kissing balls as cheap as possible.

The styrofoam balls at Hobby Lobby were like $3.99 each and then I have to get the silks to attach to it....the balls will end up being close to $6-$7 each....more than I was planning.  Does anyone have any other ideas/experiences with this?

I used them for our aisle exactly as you described. I purchased them at Michael's with a 50% off coupon. I think the total for 12 kissing balls was $70. What color do you want? Here's a picture from the day:

These are SO gorgeous! I snagged your picture for inspiration. I hope you don't mind! :)

Thanks. I really had my mind set on the idea and it definitely took some hunting, money, and work. Not a problem saving the photo down!

Did you get the hooks at Michael's also? What department?

Re: Gorgeous
I got the hooks from http://www.bestnest.com

It was $150 for 12, free shipping. We spray painted them white ourselves.

That is exactly what I want! Beautiful!

I guess I didn't answer your color question....I'm either doing an off white color or the fuschia color. Or maybe both.

Did you make these kissing balls yourself? What size styrofoam did you use and do you remember how many roses you used on each ball?

Nope, I'm terrible at DIY projects. I purchased them from Michael's because to get them fresh from the florist was prohibitively expensive. If they're the color/quantity you're looking for, we could discuss a sale:

PS. I'm leaving for Hawaii in the morning so if you decide to email me and don't hear back immediately, I'm not ignoring you!

they sound great! it's always nice to see variety in decorations.

I've never heard them called kissing balls, but I'm doing pomanders. :) I'm using square styrofoam because it's cheaper (I can carve it into a ball shape). I'm ordering green mums from Cosco, and hopefully they'll look something like this but with no floral pins showing and on shepherd's hooks:

We're using kissing balls to line the aisle as well, but they'll have real flowers. Our florist will be using Black Magic roses as well as Cherry Brandy (which are kind of orange in color). They're quite pricey from the florist at $50 each, so bravo for doing them yourself!

You could try getting the styrofoam balls cheaper online - Save On Crafts has them for a decent price, two 4" round balls for $3.20 : http://www.save-on-crafts.com/styrofoamball4.html

They have other sizes too - the 3" ones are an even better deal.

I love those so much! My florist said they run between 35-65 each w/ carnations...so my question is where is the best place to purchase silk flowers at a reasonable price?

I made my flowergirl ones on my own using stems discounted to 44 cents each but I found cheap ones on ebay that came out great for the pews.

I'm making my own as well...I plan to hang them on the chairs as pictured above. I was able to find my roses on ebay for fairly cheap and bought 4" styrofoam balls 2 for $4 at michaels.

Mine are going to end up costing about $5 each...but I couldn't find the red ones I wanted for cheaper anywhere...
