The plan: Tea Party in the back yard of casa de
Originally, I was planning on a setup similar to this. This is a baby shower I threw for a friend a few years back. And heck... I already own the linens which I purchased from the fashion district down-town LA and sewed all by myself.

I love the small detail on the chocolate overlay, plus hot pink and chocolate really pop!

Anywho... now I'm starting to have second thoughts.
Last weekend, the event I helped Kristeen was more of a Shabby-chic kinda style. The colors were soft pinks and greens with accents of yellow and the occasional pops of blue. Perfect in my mind for a backyard tea party.
The venue: My backyard

Pictures of table setup!

Flowers incorporated included some lovely large pink roses that faded to a slight green on the outside. Along with yellow billy balls, yellow kangaroo paws, pink and white ranunculus, white mini carnations, large fluffy peonies, white stock and green succulents.
For vases we had two kind... the first being a bunch of lovely green depression glass that

I also got a bunch of tall milk glass vases of ebay.

We also had a bunch other objects like birds, books, keys and some cages spray painted blue.

I loved how they had their food setup, and will want to do something similar... ish.

Flowers for the guest of honor to take home. See that vase? Yeah, I got that from the alley behind our house.

Setting up for this event, the elements were against us. The backyard was like a giant wind vortex. 2 Vases smashed, the linens wouldn't lay down right, blah blah. As a result, the week I spent cutting fabric and sewing for decoration were not utilized at all. Good thing this bridal shower is coming up!
Fabric banner that I plan on using. I sewed over 20ys of this stuff using fabric I already owned. Making your own bias tape is simultaneously fun and annoying.

I ALSO spent hours and hours cutting strips of fabric so I can do a chair setup like this.

So anyway... yeah, the plans are coming along. I have another month or so to mull stuff over.
Oh, and just for fun, I had some extra flowers to screw around with a couple other arrangements and a bouquet if anyone is looking for inspiration or ideas.

1. Cutting mat
2. Large clear ruler (preferably the one used for cutting fabric for quilting)
3. A rotary cutter
4. Replacement blades for your cutter, because it WILL go dull eventually.
For fabric, I used stuff that was around 1.5-2 yds and was able to get pieces that were long enough for 18 chairs.

i'm crushing on the fabric banner big time. do you think there's a way to avoid having to sew and just using fabric tape?
May 26 2010, 17:58:00 UTC 2 years ago
You could totally make a fabric banner avoiding sewing using something like stitch witch or heat bond.
